First day in

Teaching

My first day in teaching the class, I’m so nervous at the same time excited to meet my students. Night before the day of my demonstration, I prepared my power point presentation and some activities that makes them active in the class. I did my rehearsal so that I can talk to them simultaneously and to practice the flow of my lesson.

My first class is  from 7:00-9:20am. I was assigned in Grade 9-E. This is the class were I introduced myself before and got answered their quiz without knowing that it was their quiz because I really thought they are questioning me about what is the Capital City of the Philippines then I answered them, good thing that their teacher wasn't mad at me hahahaha.

Anyways, after I introduce myself again to them I gave them an activity that I know they can answer this for only 2 minutes because this is very simple. I prepared an activity which they have to answer the blanks and this is all about themselves. I let them go in the front until all my students done in introducing their self. After that, I gave them again an activity which is called POP-CORN. When I say Pop the students will stand up while if I will say Corn the students will sit down. So, whoever student will be late to follow what I’ve said, he/she must go in front to have a talent presentation.

The students enjoyed this activity and I asked some of them about this game, they felt nervous every time I’ll say POP and CORN but at the same time excited hahahaha. After this activity, I proceed to our lesson proper. I introduced our topic which is Zumba. I discussed the brief history of Zumba and some other things that need to be considered when you do zumba.

We proceed immediately to the gym to have an activity again and we did a zumba session together with the students of Ebu P.E because they had their class in the gym too that’s why Pak Eka and Ebu P.E decided to let their students join my class. After we did a zumba, I talked to them first before I dismissed the class. I asked them about how was their experience because some of them are first time to do a zumba and I gave them a comment about their performance.

My next class is in Grade 9 D at 9:20 to 10:00am and it will continue at 10:30 to 11:50am. This class were very active and participative, they look very interested about my lesson. Again, what I did in my first class is as is on this class too. Right after our discussion, we proceed again to the gymnasium. My last class is in Grade 9 C at 13:00 to 15:00pm. The lesson is still as is, what I did on my first and second class is still the same on my last class. However, there is a little bit problem about their cooperation but then, it’s still a good experience.

Happy Independence Day to all our muslim brothers and sisters! Supposedly it’s our day off today but they invited us to join their celebration. As the students prepared the venue I myself, Jasmin and Phon (2 english majors from Thailand and Philippines) decided to help the students because we arrived early in the school. We prepared the materials for their games like eating kropok, pop-the-balloon and etc. We are so happy to help them because we got bond with them. We saluted the officers because they are so active and the program is well-organized and I’ve observe that the students and teachers really enjoyed the event most especially us because we participated some of their games.

Our second time in joining their celebration of their Independence Day. Pak Fachru fetch is in our dormitory at 8:00am and go to the UPI Main Building. They welcome us because Pak Fachru informed that we are from the Philippines and Thailand. They gave us food like their traditional coffee, banana and peanuts. After that we had our zumba and then the games. We joined their different games and we really had fun!!! My friends who won the game got their prizes and me? Just waiting on the side who will call to treat me to share their cash voucher prize hahahahaha

This is my second day in teaching. Upon arriving in the school, some of my students saw me and what makes me amazed is that they take my hands to bless. That is their way to show their respect to their teachers. I’m very overwhelmed and I can’t explain my feelings in that moment. Now, I realize that when you teach you should have a good relationship to your students and you have to respect them also so that they will give you the same.

My first class was in Grade 9-A and started at 7:00am and it ends at 9:20am. Again, I introduce my name first, where I came from and what is my purpose here and after that, I let them introduce their selves because that is our first meeting. I gave them one activity inside the classroom and one activity in the gym after I discussed our lesson which is all about Zumba. My last class in that day is in Grade-9B started at 9:20 and ends at 11:50 but I extend 10 minutes because the class were so active and we didn’t notice the time because we enjoyed our activity.

We had our late welcome dinner at night with Pak Fachru, Pak (the international president), Ebu (sea-tvet coor), our buddies, Dira, Nisa, Ulpah and Hammid and the SEA-TVET participants. The food are so delicious and we’ve tried their traditional and famous dishes.
